MOSCOW, June 26 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian and Namibian Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Hifikepunye Pohamba have agreed to continue joint efforts for the world to be safe and prospering and step up mutual support and cooperation on the international scene, said the joint communique on the Russian president's June 25-26 official visit to Namibia.
With the aim to further broaden and develop cooperation between the two countries, both sides underscored the necessity to boost trade, economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian and cultural cooperation to the level of the excellent political relations and the potentialities for development of mutually beneficial partnership, the communique noted.
The priority areas of bilateral cooperation are mining of minerals, infrastructure development, energy, fishery, military technical cooperation and also cooperation in the areas of tourism, education and public health.
Both leaders believe that a new international financial system must be formed with active participation of all members of the world community.
President Medvedev confirmed Russia's adherence to the policy to provide assistance to African countries on the bilateral basis and within multilateral international mechanisms, including in the Group of Eight.
President Pohamba welcomed Russia's participation and its full support for the efforts to ensure steady social and economic development of Africa and prevention and settlement of conflicts.
Medvedev invited Pohamba to visit Russia at any time suitable for him. The invitation was accepted with pleasure.
